靜與自在。街道兩旁的民宅、民宿、藝品店、茶房、藝術家工作室等也坐擁這山城的優雅。輕便路本是由臺陽公司與日資合作成立之輕鐵株式會社興建的台車道，主要目的是運送物資也可載人，因是輕便車所行的道路，故名輕便路；東通金瓜石，西經瑞芳可達基隆。

早期九份的物資多由焿仔寮走豎崎路搬運上來，昭和六年(1931年)輕便路開通後，物資則改由輕便車運輸。運貨之台車四周用木板圍成四方形，載人之台車則沒有圍，上面用兩只長方形木箱供人乘坐，一台輕便車可載四人，兩個兩個背對背而坐。輕便車軌道於1954年拆除後，轉變為居民行車出入的通道，是九份的重要街道之一。
