Torre Aragonese in Ghilarza
Sardinia

The aragonese tower is a sturdy structure probably built in the sixteenth century. In the nineteenth century it was adapted to be used as the district prison. The walls are made of volcanic blocks and tied with just roughed Malta, while the corners are in blocks of great size, square and placed with perfect alignment. The robustness of the building is linked to its military function, which imposed the need to dominate the surrounding area and to operate the tower in all directions
