Cong is most famous as the setting for the film "The Quiet Man", which starred John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. The cottage used in the film is just around the corner from the remains of Cong Abbey, the relics of a monastery built by the High King of Ireland, Turlach O'Connor in 1120 for the Augustinians.
