Boulder Peak (8299'/2530m) summit
California

At 8,299 feet, Boulder Peak is the high point of the Marble Mountain Wilderness west of Fort Jones, California.  The summit view yields a good overview of all the high mountains of the Klamath Mountains from the Trinity Alps south to Mt. Ashland up north.  The views include the Scott Valley, Goosenest, & Mt. Shasta to the east, even the tip of Mt. Lassen to the southeast.  The Trinity Alps & much of the Salmon Mountains to the south followed by the striking marble karst of Black Marble & Marble Mountain directly to the west.  Preston Peak is isolated & dominant to the northwest while one can see the Red Buttes, Kangaroo Mountain, & Grayback Mountain directly north, plus Dutchman Peak to Mt. Ashland (Mt. McLoughlin behind that) in the eastern Siskiyous.  Lower & Upper Wright Lakes are visible in the glacial cirques below, & 180 degrees in the other basin is a small unnamed lake w/ a rocky island & three trees.  Knedyl & I hiked up, mostly following a trail while doing bushwhacking here & there from the Big Meadows trailhead, a not too common approach up however the road leading up was a bit rotten in places.  The summit was calm & quiet w/ the sun hitting hard, perhaps the last time the weather will remain nice for the year.  The valleys have a slight haze to them, common to the region during this time, which in turn reveals all the individual ridges nicely.
