Excavation at Little Sark LSA15. These large stones represent bronze Age activity on Little Sark. the Standing stone was erected and then two other large stone formed the 'walls' of a cist burial - note the paving slabs that make up the floor. Although rabbit had heavily disturbed the burial (see the large burrow holes in the earth) and the soil on Little Sark dissolved the bones millennia ago, Beaker period (2500-2200BC) pottery and a stone armguard, used to protect an archer from the bowstring, were found. In front of the cist, a ditch can be seen which produced some Neolithic pottery. For more about the neolithic use of this field, click the arrow.
