The Roehrgraben near Ehrenfriedersdorf I
Germany

The Röhrgraben is an approximately 5 km long artifical ditch. The construction of this ditch – there existed in that area more than that – is adopted in the 14 Century. Mining operation was in progress in Ehrenfriedersdorf (a town today) since the mid-13th Century. So the miners did led by attracting additional process water for the processing of tin ores and to power water wheels for lifting rock and mine water. From Greifenbachstauweiher (a wondering pond), which is the basis of Greifenbach (a brook) leads the slow-flowing waters through the forest over to the east Sauberg (mining elevation) or even 500 m further to the Seifental (little valley). An engineering masterpiece for its time is the minimum height difference between start and end point of only 23.5 meters, representing a fall of 0.43%.

Until the closure of the mining industry in 1990 as the water of Röhrgraben water was used for the preparation of tin (Sauberg tin mine). It was so as the oldest still in service ditch art in Germany.

Between 1999 and 2002, the Röhrgraben listed status has been set repaired. Along the Röhrgraben leads a romantic track. On the journey in the forest a snack is located at the mouth of the Greifensteinstollen (a tunnel). In this mining landscape are numerous remnants (heaps, sinkholes, tunnels) can be seen from the days of abandoned mines. Even on the ruins of an old stamp mills misses the ditch.

More About Germany

Germany? Before the beginning there was Ginnungagap, an empty space of nothingness, filled with pure creative power. (Sort of like the inside of my head.)And it ends with Ragnarok, the twilight of the Gods. In between is much fighting, betrayal and romance. Just as a good Godly story should be.Heroes have their own graveyard called Valhalla. Unfortunately we cannot show you a panorama of it at this time, nor of the lovely Valkyries who are its escort service.Hail Odin, wandering God wielding wisdom and wand! Hail Freya, hail Tyr, hail Thor!Odin made the many lakes and the fish in them. In his traverses across the lands he caused there to be the Mulheim Bridge in Cologne, as did he make the Mercury fountain, Mercury being of his nature. But it is to the mighty Thor that the Hammering Man gives service.Between the time of the Nordic old ones and that of modern Frankfort there may have been a T.Rex or two on the scene. At least some mastodons for sure came through for lunch, then fell into tar pits to become fossils for us to find. And there we must leave you, O my most pure and holy children.Text by Steve Smith.
