В ходе героической обороны Севастополя город был практически полностью разрушен. По мере возрождения города продолжилось и строительство собора, которое завершилось в октябре 1888 года. Собор стал пантеоном героев обороны города. На мраморных плитах стен золотыми буквами вписаны имена георгиевских кавалеров защитников.

During the heroic defense of Sevastopol in Western war the city was almost completely destroyed. Construction of the cathedral and revival of the city came to the end in October, 1888. The cathedral became a pantheon of the heroes of defense of Sevastopol. On marble slabs of the walls golden letters entered names of the defenders awarded with St. George order.
