Скала Верхняя Голова самая северная часть острова Хортица. С юга примыкает урочище Сечевые ворота, а на востоке скала Черная.

Хортицкие скалы одни из самых древних в окрестности. Их возраст примерно 2,8 миллиарда лет. 3 миллиона лет назад, река проложила свой путь через эти скалы, так образовался остров Хортица.
