It is the largest urban park in the country, with an area of 83 hectares of green areas extending to the Atlantic, a rare feature worldwide, Designed by Landscape Architect Sidónio Pardal, it was opened in 1993 and completed in 2002. In its landscape design uses many traditional techniques of rural construction, which gives the park a timeless, naturalistic expression. This was the last of 3 constructive phases of the Park, and coincided with the Porto Capital da Cultura 2001 event
