Mueller Hut built in 2003, owned and funded by the Department of Conservation offers hikers and climbers accommodation. From the hut in clear weather you can see Mount Cook (New Zealand’s highest mountain) on the East side of the Hooker Glacier. This photo was taken from around 1800 metres above sea level, which is roughly half the height above sea level as the summit of Mount Cook.
We made a day trip from the car park at the start of the track up to the Hut. Though, today was a little different from normal as our normal party of two had gained another person, Sanja, a girl from Germany asked if she could come along as she had plans to go in the same direction.
