Hassfurt is located in the Bavarian district of Lower Franconia about 20 km east of Schweinfurt. The city is one of the oldest places in the district Hassberge. In 1235, the Würzburg Prince-Bishop Hermann von Lobdeburg granted it city rights. In 1230, the city was first mentioned in a document. Landmark and most important building is the late gothic knight's chapel. The panorama was created at the historic town hall.

The Bavarian part is made up of the administrative regions of Lower Franconia (Unterfranken), Middle Franconia (Mittelfranken), and Upper Franconia (Oberfranken).Franconia (like France) is named after the Germanic tribe of the Franks.
