As luck would have it, while learning about astrophotography on a camping trip, I captured Comet Lovejoy in mid-January of 2015 as it passed near the Pleiades and was near its closest approach to the sun. You can see it as a green smudge.
I don't really have the setup for good astrophotography, but it's a fun challenge to see what I can do with my little Nikon A point and shoot. I would have completed the lower portion of the sphere, but really, it would have been black anyway.
