Captain Cook Statue Overlooking Cook Inlet
Alaska

Where the city of Anchorage abuts the Knik Arm of Cook Inlet, a multi-layered set of observation decks centered around a statue of Captain Cook allows viewers to take in the Alaska scenery. This is a popular spot to watch the boats in Cook Inlet, the Alaska Railroad which runs between the platform and the shoreline and the setting sun.

Although shrouded in clouds, Mt. Susitna, locally known as "Sleeping Lady" to the west of the site, constantly changes how it looks with the volatile weather and angle of the sun.
Captain James Cook sailed into this 180 mile long inlet on his 1778 final expedition while looking for the Northwest Passage.
This monument to Captain Cook in Anchorage's Resolution Park stands above the inlet where Cook anchored his ships while exploring the area. It was created by Derek Freeborn and donated to the city of Anchorage by British Petroleum Co. to celebrate America's bicentennial.
