Ludwigsthal - Herz Jesu Pfarrkirche Kanzelbereich
Germany

The Sacred Heart Church is the Catholic parish church in Ludwigsthal. It is a unique Neo-Romanesque church with rich paintings, that fills all wall surfaces without gaps.

Architecture:

The Munich-based architect Johann Baptist Schott delivered the plans for the 1893/94 built by Byzantine-inspired neo-Romanesque church. The east tower carries a folding roof and triangular pediment. Arched moldings, arched windows and arched portals date from that just in the last quarter of the 19th century, very popular in Germany historic style. In medieval dark interior receives a three-aisled basilica with a wide nave and narrow aisles, kreuzgratgewölbt. The pilasters Longhouse is vierjochig, the collected choir concludes with an apse.
Interior Features:
For the interior bulkhead won the Munich painter Franz Hofstaetter, Eugen Hasenfratz from Zurich and the Passau sculptor Franz Kruis worked with. The image program designed by the then Expositus Johann Baptist Wolfsgruber. This series of paintings that fills all wall surfaces completely and fully, is probably unique in Germany in its kind. It is a Neo-Romanesque-neo-Byzantine imagery with an almost unimaginable range of topics and individual designs. During his six-year tenure (1895-1901) developed Hofstaetter not only the historical style forms, but also related elements of Art Nouveau.
The paintings revolve programmatically to the saving message of God to the road to redemption of mankind through the Beatitudes of Jesus and the works of mercy and the Holy as the earthly role models in this way. The high altar as a reliquary with rich gem imitations made of glass, a larger than life Christ as an attachment figure, a large circular chandelier with twelve towers of the heavenly Jerusalem, and stained glass windows with rich color complete the fascinating Romanesque Revival overall character of this unique religious building. Model for the whole painting of the parish church of the Sacred Heart were Romanesque churches through pictures told the believers, then mostly illiterate, the stories of the Bible.
Hofstaetter used in his work the secco technique; that is, he broke color into milk of lime and painted with this mixture on dry ground. This results in a restoration of the church would be very difficult and expensive.

More About Germany

Germany? Before the beginning there was Ginnungagap, an empty space of nothingness, filled with pure creative power. (Sort of like the inside of my head.)And it ends with Ragnarok, the twilight of the Gods. In between is much fighting, betrayal and romance. Just as a good Godly story should be.Heroes have their own graveyard called Valhalla. Unfortunately we cannot show you a panorama of it at this time, nor of the lovely Valkyries who are its escort service.Hail Odin, wandering God wielding wisdom and wand! Hail Freya, hail Tyr, hail Thor!Odin made the many lakes and the fish in them. In his traverses across the lands he caused there to be the Mulheim Bridge in Cologne, as did he make the Mercury fountain, Mercury being of his nature. But it is to the mighty Thor that the Hammering Man gives service.Between the time of the Nordic old ones and that of modern Frankfort there may have been a T.Rex or two on the scene. At least some mastodons for sure came through for lunch, then fell into tar pits to become fossils for us to find. And there we must leave you, O my most pure and holy children.Text by Steve Smith.
