The construction of Kaohsiung Wude Martial Arts Center in Hamasen was completed in 1924 (the 13th Year of Japanese Emperor Taishoo).It was part of the police system.The interior consists of two major areas, Kendo area on the east side and Judo area on the west side, which allows an accommodation of approximately 100 people.In the Japanese Occupation, the center served as a space for police training and for youth to practice Judo and Kendo.At that time, Taiwan was promoting the idea of martial morality.Martial art performances were held regularly at the center to advocate the samurai culture.“Kaohsiung Wude Martial Arts Center” is the only historic site with its original functions maintained after renovation.It is a historical space of martial arts combining functions of culture, physical training and tourism, where residents get to refresh their memories of the spirit and the culture of the samurai.
