Relief Of Athena Silifke Vr Mersin 788
Turkey
It is in Eleksi Boğaz, located within agricultural fields that can be accessed via 10-minute walk from Dere Site while heading in the northeast direction from Aşağı Sömek Neighborhood, 40 km northeast of Silifke. It is closer when we set off from Kızkalesi. A relief representation of “Athena, the Goddess” standing between two columns was made on the southern face of the rock. Face and the breast of the relief are damaged. She holds a spear with a snake wound around it in her right hand raised in the air. The snakehead is turned towards the column. Her left hand rests on the shield. It was found out that the details in the clothes represented the characteristics of the 4th century AD. The semi-dome of the niche behind her head is in the shape of an oyster shell. On her left, on the other hand, front part of a prancing horse can be seen. The bundle of thunderbolts of Zeus is depicted under the right plaster; in the middle, there stands a damaged bust and a crescent accompanied by a hexagram on it, and there is a figure of candelabra with a crescent on the right side of the column.
