Clan MacRae WWI Memorial at Clachan Duich
Scotland

The Clan MacRae World War One Memorial at Cnoc-a-Clachan overlooks the Clachan Duich.

Clachan Duich is the ancient church and burial ground of the MacRaes of Kintail. The name is derived from Clachan, meaning stones in Scottish Gaelic, and the name of the nearby loch. The site was dedicated to St Duthac in 1050 but is thought to have been in use for centuries before.

The church was damaged by the same warships that destroyed the nearby Eilean Donan castle in 1719. The graveyard contains the graves of John and Isabella MacRae Gilstrap who rebuilt Eilean Donan in the early 20th century, which has since become one of the most famous castles in the world.
