The park was created on September 2nd, 2001 to mark the 100 anniversary of Chiune Sugihara. 200 sakura trees were planted.
Chiune Sugihara (1 January 1900 – 31 July 1986) was a Japanese diplomat. With Netherlands consul Jan Zwartendijk and other people contribution Sugihara gave transit visas to Jews and saved them from the Holocaust.http://wikimapia.org/22972003/Chiune-Sugihara-sakura-park
