Thomas Peak (11340'/3457m) summit (gigapixel)
Nevada

Gigapixel view from the summit of Thomas Peak (elev. 11,340') in the Ruby Mountains outside of Lamoille, Nevada.  It is the third highest peak in the range w/ relatively easy access.  The summit is on the west side of the impressive Lamoille Canyon w/ views extending from Full House Peak to the south, Mount Fitzgerald & Ruby Dome (highest peak in the range to the west), as well as Verdi Peak & Mount Talbot to the north.  Directly below one can see Island Lake in the hanging valley.  The peak is named after Raymond Thomas, a teacher at Elko High School who died from exposure during a snowstorm in these mountains in 1916.  Thomas Canyon directly in view to the west is also named in his honor.  There was some haze, mostly blown in from fires burning in Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks in California.
