This chapel was built by Gaspar Manuel Carneiro, chief pilot of the career navy for India, China and Japan and Knight of the Order of Christ, as well as by his wife, Bárbara Ferreira d'Almeida, to promote the cult of Nossa Senhora do Socorro, patron saint of sailors, and there make their mausoleum. Its interior is covered with tiles from the 18th century, in continuous panel, and represent scenes from the childhood of Christ.
