東御門は、駿府城二ノ丸の東に位置する主要な出入口でした。この門は二ノ丸堀(中堀)に架かる東御門橋と高麗門、櫓門、南および西の多聞櫓で構成される桝形門です。桝形門は要所に石落し、鉄砲狭間、矢狭間等をもつ堅固な守りの実戦的な門で、戦国時代の面影を残しています。
東御門の前が安藤帯刀(あんどうたてわき)の屋敷であったことから「帯刀前御門」、また、台所奉行であった松下浄慶(まつしたじょうけい)にちなんで「浄慶御門」とも呼ばれ、主に重臣たちの出入口として利用されました。
慶長年間に築かれた東御門は寛永12年(1635)に天守閣、本丸御殿、巽櫓などと共に焼失し、寛永15年に再建されました。
この復元建物は、この寛永年間再建時の東御門・巽櫓の姿を目指し、日本の伝統的な木造工法によって復元したものです。内部は資料館となっており、駿府城の歴史や城下町についての解説、出土品やジオラマ・模型等の展示が行われています。
