Downpatrick Head, named after Ireland's patron saint St. Patrick, is a headland jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean on the north coast of County Mayo. Its most famous feature, and one of the most striking  landmarks on the Wild Atlantic Way, is the Dún Briste sea stack.

Meaning 'broken fort', the 45-metre high rock formation stands some 200 metres offshore. It was separated from the mainland by a violent storm in 1393. Those stranded on it were rescued using ships ropes.
