Over time, the problems of the mouth of the Douro, in general, and the Cabedelo, in particular, have proven to be difficult to resolve or even compelling. The analysis of some historical elements, namely as floods, shipwrecks, difficulties in navigation, the implementation of some works, as well as the characteristics for improving access to the Douro mouth, are proof of that difficulty. The need to carry out commercial transactions safely culminated with the construction of the artificial port of Leixões which seems to have, cumulatively with other anthropic conditions, some influence on the morphodynamics of Cabedelo.
