North Gate of Old Taipei City
Taipei
The North Gate (北門), also named Cheng-en Gate (承恩門) is the best preserved part of the city wall that once circled the governmental center of Taipei city, roughly the area south of today's Taipei Railway Station.

This massive gate in the style of the Cing dynasty is the only gate of the original five city gates that was not torn down or remodeled. The gate was originally slated to be torn down to make way for a new expressway; but when the time came to remove the gate, a public outcry prevented the demolition in 1977.

Being designated a historic site of first rank, the North Gate today is one of the old landmarks of Taipei City. Excerpt form: taiwan.net.tw From Paddy Fields to Modern High-Rises - 120 Years of Taipei City
