The architect Fernando Távora carried out between 1957-58 the project for the Quinta da Conceição Municipal Park, which was privately owned and became a public park. There were already elements that guaranteed a structure to maintain: the avenue, the chapel, the cloister, the tanks and therefore its realization lasted for years. Fernando Távora noticed the conflict between the new accesses to the Port of Leixões and the Quinta land, but solved the problem with a suggestion for accesses that was accepted by the Porto City Council. The space that was celebrated in this project was this Tennis Pavilion.

Completed in 1959, a splendid work of art appears with a fantastic ability to adapt to the surroundings, a building criticized for functionality, but impeccable in proportions and materiality. Stresses the trends of modern international architecture, and the strong traditions of traditional Portuguese architecture with a touch of Japanese architecture. Távora assumes the influence of Asian architecture in some alterations in the work, not only in the Pavilion but also in other interventions in Quinta da Conceição.
