Vila do Conde, Church of Sao Joao Baptista, Nave, Portugal
Portugal

Gothic and Manueline church, built between 1496-1518 had the patronage of D. Manuel I, and came to replace a previous one, of which there are no traces. Like the construction of the Church of Caminha, this work was directed by successive teachers from Vizcaya. The first would have been Juan de Riaño (1496-1500) followed by Rui Garcia (1500-1509) and lastly Juan de Castillo (1511-1514) who was previously building the main chapel of the Cathedral of Braga. the chancel and its vault are by Juan de Castillo. D. Manuel's plan was simpler, without transept or absidiolos. Subsequent are the chapels of the transept and the bell tower, the latter built in 1573 by João Lopes o Moço in a Renaissance style.
