Il complesso monumentale della Certosa Reale di Collegno risale al XVI secolo.
Dopo essere stato un monastero certosino, nel XIX secolo divenne il Regio Manicomio, e successivamente ospedale psichiatrico fino alla soppressione di tali strutture in tutta Italia.
Oggi il complesso è parte di una vasta area verde adibita a parco pubblico.
Durante gli anni Venti fu paziente di questo ospedale il celebre "smemorato di Collegno", la cui identità non è mai stata definitivamente appurata (Bruneri o Canella?). Recentemente su questo caso è andata in onda una fiction televisiva: gran parte delle scene sono state girate fra queste vecchie mura.
