Girdle Ness Lighthouse, Aberdeen
Scotland

Girdle Ness Lighthouse stands on a promontory to the south of Aberdeen harbour. It was completed in 1833 to a unique Stevenson design featuring two fixed lights in the same tower. The lower light was housed in a glazed gallery a third of the way up the tower, although it was no longer used after 1890.

Today the site is one of a network of 12 ground-based reference stations providing Differential Global Positioning System transmissions to mark navigational hazards around the coasts of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
