At the summit of Emory Pass in the Black Range
New Mexico
This part of New Mexico consists of a jumble of mountain ranges with a few narrow valleys and small towns. Emory Pass is the 8228 foot (2508 m) high point where Highway 152 crosses the Black Range, also known as the Sierra Diablo, and including the Mimbres Mountains. The Continental Divide runs along the crest of these mountains, separating the Mimbres and Gila Rivers, which run into the Colorado River and down to the Gulf of California, from Percha Creek, which runs to the Rio Grande and eventually the Gulf of Mexico.
