For more than 150 years, Bad Aussee has been a health resort and therefore also a center for health and well-being. The city is located in the center of the Ausseerland. Bad Aussee also forms the geographic center of Austria, which is marked with the center stone in the Bad Ausseer Stadtkurpark. The Traun flows through the city from east to west. At the confluence of the Grundlseer Traun and the Altausseer Traun is the geographic "centre of Austria", as determined in 1949 by the Institute for Geography at the University of Vienna.
