Titchfield Abbey, the last monastery of Premonstratensian canons to be founded in England, was converted into a Tudor mansion in 1537 after Henry VIII's Suppression of the Monasteries, reusing many of the monastic buildings. A grand turreted gatehouse, which was built across the nave of the church, is the most prominent feature of the ruins. Little else remains of the original 13th century abbey, although the abbey plan is still visible.

Place House, was owned by the successive Earls of Southampton. The 3rd Earl was a patron of William Shakespeare it is believed that some of Shakespeare’s plays were performed there for the first time. The house also has Royal connections with visitors that included Edward VI, Elizabeth I and Charles I.

The house was abandoned in 1781 and dismantled for its stone. The medieval tiles were discovers during 20th century archaeological excavations.
