Scrabo Tower is a well known and easily spotted landmark found at the head of Strangford Lough overlooking the old market town of Newtonards .

The turret is built 540ft above sea level and the tower itself stands at 125ft high . The walls are over a metre in thickness and built from the stone from Scrabo Hill on which it stands .

It was erected in memory of the third Marquis of Londonderry in 1857 and is now a popular tourist attraction with stunning views of the Mourne Mountains , Belfast and even as far as the coast of Scotland
