Not far below the Rock Slide Rapid the Rio Grande waters calm down and the floating is easy. The opportunity to relax and take in the view of the steep canyon walls is afforded with a brief stop at this gravel bar. As you look across the river to the Mexican side you can see the cliffs are eroded into small caves and overhangs where the water washes against the rock as it rounds the bend in the river. Looking upstream you can still see some of the boulders from the Rock Slide.
