South Canyon is accessible by a long hiking trail from the north rim but it is also an attractive campsite to boaters and rafters.
This panorama was photographed at the confluence of South Canyon with the Colorado River and is about 100' above river level. From this vantage you can see up river a mile or so and down river to the bend at Vasey's Paradise. Vasey's Paradise is a lush vegetative microclimate created by the cool rushing water issuing from a cave entrance in the cliff. Don't, however, let the lush vegetation fool you. If you are not extremely careful in the area, you will fall victim to poison ivy, but Vasey's is a popular place for boaters to filter clean water to replenish their supplies.
