The roofed-over kiva at Lowry Pueblo
USA
When Lowry Pueblo was excavated in the 1930's the two kivas retained their painted plaster wall treatments. Despite construction of a roof the plaster in this kiva deteriorated and is now gone. The second kiva was re-filled with dirt to preserve its remnants of plaster.Lowry Pueblo, named for a local farmer, dates from circa 1060 A.D. and has about 40 rooms. The roof was built to protect plaster walls surviving in two kivas at the east end of the pueblo.
