Hambone Island (aerial)

A 400' aerial view from above Hambone Island, a forested kipuka near Bartle, California.  Approximately a mile in length, the feature is an elevated area of land above the Giant Crater Lava Flow, which flowed through this area roughly 12,500 years ago.  The lava flow covers much of the vast plains in the area & its boundary can be distinguished by the vegegation.  Elevated areas have more tree cover while sparser areas are where plants are slowly making a foothold in the lava plains.
