Horse Thief Canyon

Horse Thief Canyon is a well hidden valley in the mountains between Hope Valley and the Carson Valley. It gets its name from horse thieves, who in the mid 1800s, would steal the pioneer’s horses at night and take them up and over Fay Canyon to the secluded Horse Thief Valley. They would keep them to later sell to other unsuspecting pioneer travelers trekking the formidable Carson Pass.
