Evergreen Cemetery

I spent one evening examining the headstones of Evergreen Cemetery in Yreka, California.  The oldest part of the cemetery is evident w/ the tall marble obelisks, some of the oldest citizens were born in the late 1700s.  Here one can see a small headstone that says Child Unknown w/ an estimated death from 1909-1912.  Two stones to the left another headstone reads:

John Saxton

Met death in Mt. Vernon Mine

August 31, 1911

Age 37 yrs.

A quick lookup shows the Mount Vernon Mine is along the Greenhorn Road a few miles west of Yreka, the area being rich in gold.  Though there is little information on the deceased, he appeared to have been born in Germany in 1874 & was single at the time w/ his parents unknown.  As a miner, he died in an accident after being crushed by a falling boulder.
