Cathedral of Porto, Cloister aerial view

On the south side of the Cathedral opens the Gothic cloister, a work commissioned by Bishop D. João III and started in 1385, contemporary with the construction of the Batalha Monastery. On each side of the court, four broken arches open, inscribing in each of them an oculus and three smaller arches, supported by double columns with vegetal capitals. The galleries are covered by vaults of pointed beams. The walls are filled with 18th century baroque tiles, by António Vital Rifarto and illustrated with biblical scenes.
