Lewis and Clark's Canoe Camp on the Clearwater River
When the Lewis and Clark expedition stumbled out of the Bitterroot Mountains in September of 1805 they were nearly starving. They camped at this location for twelve days and built six large dugout canoes from ponderosa pine logs, then continued west down the Clearwater River.
