Cacanpunta Pass is one of the two 4700m high mountain passes on the famous Huayhuash Circuit that trekkers usually tackle on their first day of the trek. The trail follows the valley(where there is road access)down below for a short distance before skirting up to rise sharply to this high point. The stream on the other side of the valley is unnaturally crimson in colour - though not very obvious here is I believe the result of unrestricted mining activities of a Japanese firm nearby.
