Bräunsdorf water tower
Germany

The Bräunsdorf water tower has a height of 25 meters or, including the attached turret, 29 meters.

The diameter of the tower is seven meters at the octagonal base and 5 meters at a height of 18 meters.

Above this is the water storage area with a diameter of nine meters.

The tower is crowned by a 30 cm high parapet divided into loopholes and a four meter high turret attached to the side,

which serves as roof access. The two existing storage tanks inside hold 30 cubic meters of water each.

The tower was built in 1906 in a steel skeleton construction made of 24 cm thick steel girders.

Between 1910 and 1913, the spaces between the steel girders were lined with bricks, as well as a cladding and decoration with roughcast in the neo-Romanesque-historical style.

The tower's water supply came from a tunnel at the eastern foot of the Wäschberg and was used to supply drinking water to the Bräunsdorf state institution (nursing home).

In 1997 the water system was shut down.

The listed tower is now in a desolate condition.

From the top of the water tower you can see the Leipzig Monument to the Battle of the Nations, the Fichtelberg and the Keilberg.

More About Germany

Germany? Before the beginning there was Ginnungagap, an empty space of nothingness, filled with pure creative power. (Sort of like the inside of my head.)And it ends with Ragnarok, the twilight of the Gods. In between is much fighting, betrayal and romance. Just as a good Godly story should be.Heroes have their own graveyard called Valhalla. Unfortunately we cannot show you a panorama of it at this time, nor of the lovely Valkyries who are its escort service.Hail Odin, wandering God wielding wisdom and wand! Hail Freya, hail Tyr, hail Thor!Odin made the many lakes and the fish in them. In his traverses across the lands he caused there to be the Mulheim Bridge in Cologne, as did he make the Mercury fountain, Mercury being of his nature. But it is to the mighty Thor that the Hammering Man gives service.Between the time of the Nordic old ones and that of modern Frankfort there may have been a T.Rex or two on the scene. At least some mastodons for sure came through for lunch, then fell into tar pits to become fossils for us to find. And there we must leave you, O my most pure and holy children.Text by Steve Smith.
