Billia croo, Ootertoon, Stromness, Orkney

The European Wave Energy Test Centre at Billa Croo

There are berths just offshore from here with power connections and anchor points for mooring wave energy devices for testing. This is on the west coast so the full energy of Atlantic storms can be driving in here to give the wave energy devices a thorough test.

On the day I took this panorama there was a jack-up-barge putting in the moorings for one device and a smaller boat with divers prepairing for another arrival.

The two men looking on are my father in law, James Matches and my Father Peter Leith.
