Big Bald Rock (3274'/998m) summit

View from the top of Big Bald Rock (elev. 3274') in the Sierra Nevada foothills east of Oroville, California.  The summit consists of a large granite batholith plain that forms the northern end of the Sierra Nevada range.  These kinds of dome formations are abundant throughout the range, the most famous being Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park.  From here one has a nice view of the Central Valley & Klamath Mountains to the west, w/ the Sutter Buttes poking up prominently in the distance behind Lake Oroville.  To the east are endless pine forests leading up to the higher peaks of the range.  There are a few other granite domes within the region, some of them dropping straight down to the Middle Fork Feather River Canyon below.
