Basel, Church St. Peter, near Petersgasse
Switzerland

Basel is the capital of the canton of Basel-Stadt. After the Rauricans, Helvetians and Romans, the Alamanni settled in Basel. At times, Basel was part of the Holy Roman Empire. In 1501 Basel joined the Swiss Confederation. Until 1529 Basel was a bishopric. The university was founded in 1460. Basel is an important location for the pharmaceutical industry. The former building of the church was destroyed by the Basel earthquake of 1356. Since 1529, the Church is an Evangelical Reformed Church.
