The main avenue of São João da Pesqueira, where most of the shops and services are located and is part of the famous N222, one of the most spectacular in the world, zagging along the Douro River. Its name is based on a great and illustrious man of the village, Luís Maria Pinto de Soveral, the Marquês of Soveral. Marquês de Soveral, was a man from São João da Pesqueira who marked, at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the European courts and international political life. He was born in 1851 at Quinta de Cidrô in S.João da Pesqueira and would die in Paris in 1922. In 1895 he became Minister of Foreign Affairs, receiving in 1901 the title of Marquês of Soveral.

O seu nome é baseado num grande e ilustre Homem da vila, Luís Maria Pinto de Soveral, o Marquês de Soveral. Marquês de Soveral, foi um pesqueirense que marcou, no final do século XIX e os inícios do século XX, as cortes europeias e a vida política internacional. Nasceu em 1851 na quinta de Cidrô em S.João da Pesqueira e viria a falecer em Paris no ano de 1922. Em 1895 é Ministro dos Negócios Estrangeiros, recebendo em 1901 o titulo de Marquês de Soveral.
