Frank Hurley's Darkroom, Mawson's Huts, Antarctica

The darkroom of Frank Hurley, photographer to Sir Douglas Mawson's 1911-14 Australasian Antarctic Expedition.

The darkroom is situated inside the Main Hut at Cape Denison, Commonwealth Bay, Antarctica. The Huts are part of the Cape Denison Historic Site, being conserved by the Mawson's Huts Foundation and the Australian Antarctic Division.

Hurley is widely regarded as Australia's most famous photographer. He took the first ever photographic images of East Antarctica, developing many glass plate, Autochrome, Paget Process, panoramic and stereoscopic images in this historic darkroom.
