Acropolis from East end

The Acopolis dominates the skyline of Athins.  It would have been highly defensible in ages past, and it has withstood seige right up until the war with Turkey in the 1800s.

The Acropolis describes the height of land. It is not the name of the buildings that are so magnificently displayed on its crown.  They were buillt in differnent times for primarily one purpose - worship and respect for the Goddess Athena.  [For more information on the Acroposils visit Wiki here.](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acropolis_of_Athens)
