Abbeymahon Abbey ruins, County Cork
Ireland

The sparse ruins of Abbeymahon Abbey are located beside the estuary of the River Arigdeen, between Timoleague and Courtmacsherry, in County Cork. The nearby original abbey was founded in 1172, with its Cistercian monks relocating to the larger site in 1278.

It always struggled to flourish financially and was eventually dissolved during the reformation. Today only the ruins of the church survive, along with part of a tower house that was probably once the abbot's residence.
