Founded in IV-V century over part of the necropolis of the near punic town of Tharros. In IX-XI centuries two aisles with a barrel vault design were added.
The mortal remains of St. Augustine were kept in this church before their final trip from Cagliari to Pavia, where they rest in San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro basilica.
